A bitterly cold weekend of football lay in store as Premier League clubs look to kick-off their festive run of fixtures. The pick of the games will be at Stamford Bridge, where Manchester United will be desperate to increase their lead at the top of the table.

In the papers this morning there has been a mixed bag of stories that include Roy Hodgson wanting a transfer spree in January; Pep Guardiola’s fears Arsenal tie, while Mark Hughes has pleaded more time at Craven Cottage.
